Choosing Love

Presented by

JANET THOMAS

Janet Thomas, 24-year leader of the BreakFree Women's Community, will conduct a four-week workshop focused on this important theme.

This workshop is open to BreakFree and Breakthrough graduates. It is adapted from the highly acclaimed 2018 BreakFree Weekend. Participants will have the opportunity to choose female or male listening partners.

"If you missed the BreakFree Weekend this year or loved it and want more, do join us! I am excited to have a chance to see you in January, this is a new time slot for us. I hope to see you." -- Janet Thomas

Choosing Love

We entered the world ready for love. Our past mistreatments and disappointments have our adapted child afraid of being hurt again. Now we long for love: to love and to be loved by family, friends, partners. Our adult decisiveness is needed to keep us choosing love, to create healthy loving relationships, and to lovingly release. Let's come together to welcome loves rich and varied possibilities.

This workshop will help us get clearer about:

  • Loving Behavior

  • Attachment Styles

  • Love Languages

  • Building New Love

  • Keeping Love Alive

  • Letting Go of Relationships That No Longer Serve Us

When: Four Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 9:30 pm, on 1/17, 1/24, 1/31 & 2/7.

Where: The Breakthrough Center, 1069 Broadway in Seaside.

Cost:

Sliding Scale for graduates -- $300 to $150.

Sliding Scale for Alumni Association/Monthly Sustainer members  -- $300 to $125.

Thriving In Relationship

A Breakthrough Couple’s Group

Monday Evenings

October 22, 29, November 5, 12, 19, 26, December 7 -- 2018

6:30 – 9 pm

$400 per couple for the 7 week class at the Breakthrough Center, Seaside

Our primary purpose is for Breakthrough & BreakFree graduates to carry the Breakthrough/BreakFree principles into their primary relationships using safe & effective communication techniques.

This Group is appropriate for you if:

  • You are beginning a relationship

  • You want to enrich & deepen a good relationship

  • You are in a difficult relationship & want to resolve longstanding challenges

  • You are near break-up & want to decide if the relationship can be saved.

In this class you will learn how to:

  • Develop safe & effective communication skills.

  • Resolve longstanding conflicts with compassion.

  • Recreate the passion, attraction, and intimacy that first brought you together.

  • Discover a path to emotional healing through your relationship.

  • Experience a deep level of empathy and connection with your partner.

This group will work with the BreakFree/Breakthrough principles & the Harville & Helen Hendrix book: Getting the Love You Want. In this 7-week experiential group, couples will have the opportunity to learn new skills and work privately with each other, only sharing what they wish with the larger group. This is not group therapy. It is often inspiring and supportive to see other couples deepening their connection to one another.

Instructors

  • Brad Gebert is a retired School Counselor, a member of the Breakthrough Community Life Committee & has served on many Leadership Teams.

  • Cristin DeVine is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist & certified Imago Relationship therapist.

  • Peter Fonken is a certified Imago Relationship Educator & a vision quest guide.

Effective Communication Workshop

from 130.00

We all communicate every day.

Ever noticed that you walk away from many exchanges either incomplete, upset or not heard. The tools we'll learn in this workshop will literally change your life for the better. Imagine never having to feel like you're cornered or overwhelmed by anyone or knowing how to listen so that those around you really feel heard. What if arguing or enduring were no longer a part of your life?

These Effective Communication Tools are truly golden and can be used for a lifetime.

The 1st Saturday introduces communication and relationship building skills with spouse, parent, child, friend, employer and employee offering alternatives to conflict.

The 2nd Saturday enhances and internalizes the skills. We’ll learn how to assert needs through “I” statements, set limits, negotiate to agreement, diffuse criticism and have the opportunity to practice and reinforce the new skills through roleplaying.

If you have any questions or need help with the registration process, contact Lee Garland at 831-402-4303 or liber8lee@gmail.com.

The 28th Annual Breakthrough Retreat

"Beyond Success or Failure:

Learning as a Love Affair!"

You’re Invited to the

28th Annual Breakthrough Retreat

July 13, 14, 15 at the St. Francis Retreat Center

This summer we will explore the impact of primary and secondary education on our aspirations, inherent curiosity and longing to be fully alive. Primary and secondary education can be so disorienting and traumatic that many boys/men never really get the chance to fulfill their dreams. Many of us who "accomplished" what was expected of us in school, are still stuck in patterns with which we wrestle or with which we are unconsciously at odds. Others were scarred deeply by the experience in the education system. Most all of us are still in need of healing from that experience and yearn to learn in different ways.

In our retreat this year, we will inquire and play, pay attention to our bodies, pay attention to each other and the present moment in an effort to experience all of life’s fullness.

Our retreat this year will be led by Tom Lee and Manning Phillips, M.B.A. Tom completed the Breakthrough 1&2 Workshop in 1990. He has participated in many Breakthrough 1, 2 & 3 Workshops as presenter and as a member of the leadership teams.  Manning began his Breakthrough Journey in 2005 and has been a presenter of the workshop since 2015 and was chosen as one of two Workshop Leadership Council Co-Chairs.

Your Summer Retreat Committee:

E. Richard Brown, David Ward, Frank Troia, Gonzalo Coronado, Gus Leonard, John Juster, Scott Shillcock & John Hain.
